Out of the 3 lakh 30 thousand visas issued by the US for students in India, 56 percent (or about 1.8 lakh) were issued in two Telugu-speaking states Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
More than 90 percent of visas are for master's degree and PhD degree programs after graduation.
Americans are very happy with Telugu students because there applications are usually fair and they apply directly to embassy and they do not use agents to apply for visas. As a result, the waiting time for student visa is just six days in Hyderabad unlike 42 days in Delhi.
US Consulate is likely to open two more consulates in Vizag and Vijayawada.
